KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) — Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd’s unit Halal International Selangor (HIS) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with universities from the United Kingdom, China, Korea and Taiwan to collaborate in HIS’s Halal Technical Competent Person (HTCP) programme.

The HTCP is a halal assurance training scheme that will widen access to the halal marketplace.

“These MoUs are to establish and expand training collaboration in HTCP, which will strengthen competencies in the broad field of Halal industries.

“They will also provide universities new avenues to diversify educational offerings and at the same time build knowledge towards global halal assurance,” Central Spectrum Chief Executive Officer Mahmud Abbas told Bernama.

He expressed hope that HIS’ aim of providing another platform for the halal trade and industry in Malaysia, especially in the areas of real estate, delivery assurance, distribution chain, market development and capacity development, would be realised.

“The main strategic pillar in driving this halal global platform is by providing halal assurance and integrity along the supply value chain.

“What HIS is doing here is not to compete with the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), but to complement what the government agency is doing towards making Malaysia the global halal hub come 2020,” he said.

HIS’ halal delivery assurance scheme encompasses the complete flow and major checkpoints across the value chain from farm to fork.

The value chain framework includes additional processes with respect to Halal traceability along every step of the value chain, ensuring manufacturers, key international ports and logistics players are Halal compliant to further benefit downstream stakeholders.
